A 2,000-year old synagogue in Damascus has been destroyed with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and rebel troops blaming each other and 'Zionist agents' for the destruction.

The synagogue was said to be built on the site
where the prophet Elijah concealed himself from persecution and
